The Sebastian Hunter Memorial Trust donates funds for shoes and prosthesis to be made for patients of the Schieffelin Institute of Health and Leprosy Research Centre. The shoes are made from a MCR rubber, made specially for Leprosy Patients.
Each shoe/prosthetic is unique to the patient’s needs and require frequent repairs. Repairs can cost between 50P and £2, with shoes ranging from £4 to £100 depending on the intricacy of the prosthetic. Many of the patients at Schieffelin can not afford even simple repairs, and without these shoes and prosthesis patients can be at risk of further injures and infections.
